#206/365 Before leaving worked I wanted to mess with flash and try to balance it with the ambient room light. Martha was a good sport and stood in. Holding the camera in one hand while holding a monopod with the flash in the other hand. Used a DIY beauty dish..only because that was the only thing I had available (umbrella shaft was broke). Have a great weekend!

We are back from our honeymoon and we are starting off with the thank you card project with a collab linoleum stamp. Inspired by Dear You From Kozue, Aiko took on the illustration and I painfully carved out her ink. I messed up our ink pad pretty badly so it looks a bit gross right now.

These are super simple to make and they’re scented like fruit. I was thinking these kits would be fun for party activities,Girl scouts(6+ years),b-day favors,Summer camp projects, homeschoolers, or a “mom-n-me” quick craft. The kit would contain everything needed, except scissors. The eyes and smile would be done already. All you need to do is Whip stitch and stuff it.30 minute craft anyone? See my profile for a link if you’d like one of these:o)

Having fun with Allen’s DIY ringlight. Continuous light sources can be nice to work with. No triggers to worry about and easy to meter. They’re just a bit difficult to stare for long periods of time.
The ring light is basically a bare circular fluorescent tube mounted on a base with a window cut in it for the camera to poke through. It’s attached to a light stand, so it’s pretty easy to move up and down as needed. It’s not very stable though.

The finished product. My goal in making this (as with many of my DIY projects) was to do it with as many bits and pieces I already had on hand as possible. In the end, I had to purchase the two push button switches and the slide switch. Of course, I found the slide switch I thought I already had after completing the project : ~ }. The box is a Radio Shack project box that was retired from another project, cable is CAT5e, and the RJ-45 connector was salvaged from a dead laptop.
The shutter release housing and camera to housing cable. A straight thru coupler (not pictured) and additional CAT5e cable gives me the ability to have virtually limitless lengths of cable between me and the camera. The Instructables I based this on can be found here: www.instructables.com/id/Olympus-Evolt-E510-Remote-Cable-… Even though this was for an Olympus, the same principle could be applied to any shutter release cable.
NOTE OF CAUTION: If you use CAT5e (8 wire) cable either use only those wires that are available on standard CAT5 (6 wire) cable or remember you can only use CAT5e cable to extend your reach.

I’m very pleased with my Lastolite EzyBox Softbox that includes a solid flash holder for my compact flash. In an ideal world they would also offer a matching Beauty Dish but so far I haven’t found any. Time to do-it-yourself!

Even though building this myself didn’t make much sense economically it was very rewarding! Have you build photographic equipment yourself? Please let me know!

intercepted the ‘brew’ thermostat and sending those control wires remotely. the 2 wires that used to connect to the thermostat are now going to a solid state relay (SSR) via the thicker pair of wire intercepts (via male spade lugs).
